On Feb. 18, Billy Strings kicked off his six-night, livestreamed run at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., dubbed ‘The Deja Vu Experiment.’ The dates had been chosen to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Grateful Lifeless’s February 1971 performances on the venue, which passed off on the identical precise dates. The primary evening was streamed without cost on The Relix Channel on Twitch.

On the exhibits in 1971, the Grateful Lifeless carried out ESP Experiments, which consisted of “prompting Deadheads within the viewers to give attention to imagery proven by the band and telepathically ship the imagery to a check topic.” (Quote by way of the occasion’s description.) A digital model of such an experiment was carried out throughout ‘The Deja Vu Experiment.’ Viewers had been urged to ship a picture (a pair of eyes for final evening’s present) to a visitor receiver. Bassist Oteil Burbridge was the receiver for the primary evening; after the conclusion of the present, he video chatted with the band and offered a drawing of his imaginative and prescient of the picture.

As for the music, Strings and his band kicked off the present with two new originals, “Hearth On My Tongue” and “Morning Gentle.” Later within the set, Strings coated the Grateful Lifeless’s “Hen Tune,” adopted by his personal “Whereas I’m Ready Right here.” He then moved in to a pairing of “House of the Crimson Fox” by Invoice Emerson and “Ole Slew-Foot” by Johnny Horton. The set closed with a canopy of Yonder Mountain String Band’s “Sorrow Is a Freeway” adopted by “Every thing’s the Similar.”

Set two kicked off with Strings personal “Should Be Seven.” The spotlight of the set – and maybe the night – was the mid-set section of “Darkish Star” > “Love & Remorse” > “Darkish Star,” which noticed the band flex their jamming and psychedelic chops. Just a few songs later, Strings closed the set with a pairing of “Pyramid Nation” and “Conceal & Search.”

‘The Deja Vu Experiment’ continues tonight, Feb. 19. Whereas the primary evening was free on The Relix Channel (in addition to the final evening, Feb. 24), the remaining exhibits shall be accessible for pay-per-view on FANS. Click here to purchase tickets.
